Thats Me????

So I watched the series Luther season 1 and 2 (if you haven't watched it WATCH it, Idris Alba is badass, but my favorite character is Alice). It struck me what Alice (a cold blooded murder/sociopath), tells Luther as he is struggling with what to do. She pontificates:

. . . People lie to themselves in three ways. They view themselves in impossibly positive ways, they think they have far more control over their lives than they do, and they believe the future will be far better than the evidence of the present can possibly justify. . . .

 When I heard this, I had to pause and hear it again. Is this true. Do I fall into this category? Damn you Alice (person who wrote her lines). WTF.
